Eastern Shore Sailing

by Dana Kester-McCabe

Wind and water are powerful forces here. So naturally one of the best ways to really experience the Eastern Shore is to get out on the water; whether it is the Atlantic Ocean, our Coastal bays or the mighty Chesapeake.

Sure motor boats and personal water crafts are fun, but nothing can really compare to sailing. Eco friendly, before there was such a thing, sailing has much less impact on our fragile environment. It is not only beautiful but it can be thrilling.

No matter what level of boating skill you have, there is something available in your speed. You can rent a little sun fish or take a cruise on one of the legendary Skipjacks. And speaking of them - don't miss the Deal Island Skipjack Race and Blessing of the Fleet on Labor Day, which kicks off the oyster harvest season.
