by Dana Kester-McCabe

Bishopville artist John Iampieri is a screen painter. John's screens have a magical quality. They also reflect the deep cultural connection on Delmarva provided by all the people who have moved here from the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area.

Beautiful paintings of nature create a privacy screen while inside the viewer can still see the world passing by outside. The paintings provide privacy from street-side passers-by who cannot see in, while allowing in air and an undisrupted the view from inside the house.

John's screen art adorns the porches, doorways, and windows, of businesses and homes across the Eastern Shore and beyond. These painted screens add color and joy to the lives of John’s patrons.

John carries on a tradition that began in certain neighborhoods of Baltimore, across the bay, where front door screens are painted with landscapes, wildlife, and other charming subjects. A Baltimore native, John was inspired by this unique form of art which began there in 1913.image
