Lynne Lockhart

by Dana Kester-McCabe

Lynne Lockhart is a native Eastern Shore artist who is known for impressionist paintings of landscapes, animals, and more. She creates masterful paintings with brush strokes that not only look effortless, but whose subjects look as if they could jump off the surface and come alive.

Lynne Lockhart who has countless volumes of her drawings. Like a competitive athlete she has a daily workout. In pencil, she practices animal anatomy studying how the bones and muscles work under skin and fur. She says she uses plein air landscape painting as “cross training” to perfect her style.

With genuine humility, she credits the masters: “They have all helped me. Long dead artists are still helping me.” She says that the key for her is her practice of daily drawing and the “miles and miles of canvas” she has painted that make each new work appear fresh and spontaneous.

She is fascinated with capturing on canvas the wit and energy of animals, especially dogs. Lynne's paintings have an infectious joy. Her work has been honored with a number of awards. Lynne's paintings can be seen locally at Bishop Stock in Snow Hill.
