December’s First Saturday in the First State

The First State Heritage Park presents a day of historic tours and exclusive programs. Peel back the layers of time and learn about various Holiday Traditions through the variety of free programs at each of the park's partner sites, including historical theater, hands-on events, tours of historical buildings and monthly lectures. Theme for this month is "Holiday Cheer"

Biggs Museum of American Art
Join the Biggs for our 2nd annual holiday celebration. Special “kids only” holiday shop, crafts, performances from children’s choirs, food and more!

Good Cheer: 18th Century Tavern Life
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
John Bell House on The Green
Come out of the cold and draw up a chair by the fire to explore 18th century tavern life and culture: drinks, food and pastimes. Learn 18th century tavern songs, and what it was like to run a busy tavern during the Revolutionary War.

Guided Tours of Legislative Hall

Delaware’s State Constitution
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The Old State House
Guided tours of the House and Senate chambers of the historic capitol will focus on the Delaware State Constitution of 1792, changing the Delaware State to the State of Delaware.

Mummers Play
10 a.m.
John Bell House on The Green
Join us for a traditional 18th century Mummer’s plays researched, written and performed by the Campus Community First State Club. This folk theater was used to entertain audiences in exchange for food or money.

Johnson Victrola Museum’s 50th Anniversary: A Country Tale
11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Johnson Victrola Museum
This program discusses the early roots of Country Music. Listen to early recordings of “hillbilly music”. Space is limited, reserve your space by calling 302-739-3262. This program will be held on the second floor with no elevator access.

Holiday Open House
10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
At Woodburn – The Governor’s House

Mummers Play
1:30 and 3 p.m.
Kent County Courthouse, 38 The Green
