June’s First Saturday in the First State

The First State Heritage Park presents a day of historic tours and exclusive programs. Peel back the layers of time and learn something through the variety of free programs at each of the park's partner sites, including historical theater, hands-on events, tours of historical buildings and monthly lectures. This month's theme: Explore Arts

All programs will be drop-in anytime unless otherwise noted.

Influential Melodies: Music of Migration

John Bell House
Celebrate the musical influences of Delaware's past by looking at people arrviing from other parts of the world who have made Delaware their home.

Biggs Kids: Landscapes in Black and White
9 am - 4:30 pm
Biggs Museum of American Art
Be inspired by Ansel Adams' black and white photographs and make your own black and white landscape. Ages 5 to 10.

Bring Your Partners: Learn the Art of Old English Country Dancing
10 am and 1 pm
The Old State House on The Green
Guests will learn the art of Old English Country Dancing, a precursor to line and square dancing. Bring your partners, learn the simple steps and have a good time.

Tours are offered on the hour, beginning at 10 am.
Last tour leaves at 3 pm.

The Road to Appomattox: Union Soldiers and Trench Warfare, 1864 - 1865

Delaware Public Archives
Steven Sondergren will examine the experiences of sodliers in the Army of the Potomac, including several Delawareans, during the last years of the Civil War. He will explore the motivatins and adaptations for the changing forms of warfare.

Enjoy guided tours of the official residence of Delaware's Governor since 1965, and Hall House, the Governor's guest house.
