May’s First Saturday in the First State

The First State Heritage Park presents a day of historic tours and exclusive programs. Peel back the layers of time and learn something through the variety of free programs at each of the park's partner sites, including historical theater, hands-on events, tours of historical buildings and monthly lectures. This month's theme: Dover's 300th Anniversary.

Held Annually since 1933, Dover Days celebrates the Capital of the First State. Maypole dancing, a parade, concerts, craft fair, and many more events contribute to the festivities. All programs will be drop-in anytime unless otherwise noted.

Biggs Museum Self-Guided Tours

Permanent collection of American fine and decorative arts and changing exhibitions throughout the year.

Passports Through Time: Dover
9 am - 4:30 pm
Start at the John Bell House on The Green
Visit the stations in the Heritage park to connect the dots, complete your passport and see how Dover has changed the world. In the last 300 years, Dover has gone from hosting horse-drawn wagons to 900 horse power machines. Learn about everything that has happened in between.

Archaeology at the Bell House - A Time Travelers Archaeology Month Event
9 am - 4:30 pm
John Bell House on The Green
Visit the John Bell House and learn about its history and the lives of those who spent time there in the 19th century. Archaeologists will use finds from the property to discuss everyday life in the past and how we know about times gone by. Touch a piece of history and learn about the archaeological research process.

Dover Connections

Legislative Hall
Enjoy guided tours of the State Capitol building and hear about how people from Dover have influenced the course of Delaware history.

Biggs Kids: Delaware Puzzle

Biggs Museum of American Arts
Celebrate all the pieces that make Delaware diverse! Pick your favorite colors to make your own Delaware-shaped puzzle. Ages 5 to 10.

Some Like It Classical

The Johnson Victrola Museum
Enjoy early recorded classical and semi-classical music and listen to some of the greatest music ever composed on authentic Victor Talking Machines.

William Penn vs. Lord Baltimore: Let's Get Ready to Rumble!

The Old State House
Celebrate the City of Dover's 300th Anniversary with a historic theater presentation examining William Penn's conflict with Lord Baltimore.

Stories of The Green Walking Tour
Tours are offered on the hour, beginning at 10 am.
Last tour leaves at 3 pm.
