The First State Heritage Park presents a day of historic tours and exclusive programs. Peel back the layers of time and learn something through the variety of free programs at each of the park's partner sites, including historical theater, hands-on events, tours of historical buildings and monthly lectures. This month's theme: Streets We Walk On

All programs will be drop-in anytime unless otherwise noted.

Civil War Recruiting Station

John Bell House on The Green
Whether you’re fighting the tyrant in the North or trying to save the Union, your country needs you! Come to the Civil War army recruiting station to explore the live of Civil War soldiers, learn drills and participate in Civil War camp life amusements to prepare for “Better Angels: Red Honors” Historical Theater presentation.

Tales of Slavery and Freedom Walking Tour
Tours are offered hourly beginning 10 a.m. Last tour leaves at 3 p.m.

Biggs Kids: Make-A-Mask

Resurrecting the Past: How Cemeteries and their Records Speak to Researchers

Delaware Public Archives
Presented by Kevin Barni, this presentation discusses the types of records found within cemeteries, the knowledge gained from studying them, and the usefulness will be explored through two case studies.

Better Angels: Red Honors - Historical Theater Presentation
11:00 a.m., 1 p.m. 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Meet at the John Bell House
Follow the lives of Delawareans who fought and died in the Civil War. Join soldiers of the 4th Delaware Volunteer Infantry on the eve of the worst battle they ever faced, as they struggle to maintain morality during one of the bloodiest conflicts in American history. This historic theater presentation is offered in partnership with Caesar Rodney Stage Crew and Thespians.

The Old State House on The Green
Come and celebrate the City of Dover’s 300th anniversary with an interactive historic theater presentation examining William Penn’s conflict with Lord Baltimore over land boundaries.
