Push and Pull: Life on Chesapeake Tugboats
Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum - St. Michaels, Maryland (Runs through: 05/19/2012)
Food, fuel, and all the stuff of modern life – almost nothing moves on the Chesapeake Bay without tugboats. The men and women who work on tugs docking ships and moving barges do difficult, sometimes dangerous work with rules and rhythms all its own. Explore their world in Push and Pull: Life on Chesapeake Tugboats through the stories, images, and objects of the Bay's tugboats and the words of the people who work them.

Recent Paintings & Mixed Media Installation by Jinchul Kim, Guerrieri Center, Atrium Gallery, SU. Kim, an associate professor of art at Salisbury University, shows his work internationally, including Korea, Japan, France, Spain and the U.S. He has had 27 solo exhibitions in New York, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Seoul and over 300 invitational shows and group exhibitions. In 2008, he earned the University System of Maryland's highest faculty honor: the Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.

In 1987, the Ward World Championship Carving Competition introduced an interpretive category to the lineup of divisions, allowing for carvings that emphasize form, content, and movement over realism. This exhibit features paintings, carvings, and other sculpture rendered in ways that break from realism to provoke thought and wonder.

One of the most common and widespread domestic animals, chickens have been providing meat and eggs for humans for at least 5,000 years. In fact, there are more chickens in the world than any other species of bird. The exhibit examines the history of this staple of farm life and traditional foodways through art, archival photographs and ephemera, and oral histories and folklore.

Fine artists will be painting up and down the streets, beaches and bays of Ocean City. A "Quick Draw" Contest will be held at Northside Park from 2-4 pm on Saturday. On Sunday from 5-8pm the paintings will be on exhibit and for sale on Somerset Street Plaza located just off the boardwalk downtown. First prize for the Plein Air event will be $1000 and provided by the Ocean City Development Corporation. August Exhibit at Art League if Ocean City, opening reception, August 3rd.

Cold Fusion

International juried exhibition. Cold fusion often refers to the experimental process of nuclear reaction at room temperature that would provide an inexpensive and abundant source of energy. With no proven or duplicated results, however, cold fusion remains a science fiction. Expanding on this theme, organizers are calling for artwork that somehow creates a fusion of ideas, materials, forms or processes that results in something greater than its parts.

The exhibit showcases a selection of Bodine's work in the Chesapeake Bay region.
