05/26/2012 - Soft Shell Metric Century
Crisfield, Maryland - Following a show-and-go start at the Crisfield American Legion Hall (116 Brick Kiln Rd.) from 8-9 a.m., riders have the option of following a 62.1-mile (100-kilometer) or 23.1-mile route. Both routes pass some of Crisfield's most picturesque and historic areas. Registration is $30 before Saturday, May 19, & $40 after. Registration for children 12 and under is $20 before Saturday, May 19, & $30 after. Day-of registration is accepted.

06/16/2012 - Juneteenth Celebration
Avalon Theatre - 40 East Dover Street - Easton, Maryland - As part of the 2012 Juneteenth Celebration, the Academy Art Museum and the Frederick Douglass Honor Society are hosting a special screening of "Double Victory," a new documentary about the historic role of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II, produced by George Lucas and narrated by Cuba Gooding, Jr. A panel discussion will follow, featuring original Tuskegee Airmen, and moderated by Vic Carter, the WJZ Eyewitness News Co-Anchor from Baltimore. Juneteenth, one of the most important African American holidays in the country, marks the abolition of slavery. The 2012 Juneteen Celebration will commemorate Emancipation Day, celebrate the significant contributions of African Americans in our country, and reflect on the common values that we share as a community.
- A performance of African dance and music by the Sankofa Dance Theatre from Baltimore
- An exhibition of the work of Tom Miller, a nationally-acclaimed African American artist from Baltimore known for joyous and whimsical paintings, prints, and furniture
- Other fun activities include performances by the Sombarkin’ trio and local church choirs, reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, and art projects for children and families – and most important of all, a good, old fashioned barbecue lunch!
